A Brief Summary of the Following Page

When considering dental health, dental fillings often surface as a fundamental aspect of maintaining oral well-being. From understanding the types of fillings available – including amalgam, composite, gold, or ceramic – to navigating the local healthcare system, we can help you ensure you receive outstanding dental care in the Virgin Islands.
We’re proud to serve the communities of St. Croix and St. Thomas, offering a wide range of dental services that include fillings and dental restorations. For over a decade, our mission has been to deliver exceptional dental care to families across the Virgin Islands, providing services from cosmetic treatments to orthodontics. Our team is committed to using advanced dental materials and techniques to help our patients achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile.
Dental fillings can be used to address a wide number of dental health issues, including the following:
Dental fillings and similar procedures may also be used to treat other dental conditions, so we encourage you to speak with a qualified and experienced dentist for their opinions about your treatment options. A dentist from VI Dental will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Many types of fillings are on the market, but some of the most common options include:
Gold has historically been used for dental fillings, and they generally last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, depending on the care the patient is willing to put in. Some people like the look of gold, while others prefer a more natural appearance. This material may be more expensive than others, and more than one office visit may be necessary.
Similar to gold, some people like the appearance of silver dental fillings. They also generally last 10 to 15 years, but the structure requires more space to hold correctly compared to other options. This means additional teeth may need to be removed before this filling can be placed.
There is also a slight risk of cracking teeth or fractures with silver dental fillings, as the material tends to expand and contract more than others available. Some people may also be allergic to silver, which is important to keep in mind.
These have grown more popular recently, as they are a more aesthetically pleasing option that can be color-matched with the patient’s teeth. However, they are much more expensive than other options as well. While they last at least five years, this is much less long-lasting than other materials. Composite fillings may also chip and require additional visits to place.
These are an excellent option, as they are more resistant to stains than composite fillings and also last longer than 15 years in most cases. While they can be about as expensive as gold fillings, this is a very cost-effective material. Some people also like this material because of its tooth-like color and appearance.
Other fillings also exist, but they are less common. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about dental fillings and what material options we provide. VI Dental Center is more than happy to provide you with helpful answers and guidance to patients under our care.
Dental fillings are generally easy to care for as long as you follow your dentist’s recommendations. In most cases, you can maximize the lifetime of your dental fillings by following our recommendations:
